The First Few Days

When I decided to write a blog about my 'back to school' college journey I had hoped to make it a humorous one.  My first day proved to be more thought provoking than funny.  I have now been a student in the music department 3 times.  When I was 18, 32, and now, which is too old to mention.

I expected changes in things with younger students than myself.  The advent of the internet, smart phones, etc. have all become the norm for most people since I was a student at 32.  Styles change in hair, clothing, piercings, tattoos, etc.  I did experience all of that on my first day.

What surprised me were the comments from a couple of the professors that I had when I was 32.  (one of them I also had when I was 18).  They were both expressing, I guess you'd say, frustration at how students have changed.  Lack of preparation both in the form of practice and having basic supplies during rehearsals was mentioned.  They also mentioned there was so much paperwork to accomplish among the faculty now that it was impeding somewhat with creativity.

Those were my basic thoughts from my first day or two.
